Common Issues found in Pool Fence Inspections
Here’s is a list of some common issues found when conducting pool fence inspection throughout Brisbane, Logan, Redlands, Caboolture and Ipswich. It’s a good idea to add to your pool fence checklist a quick inspection of your pool fencing and any gates before arranging a pool fence inspection. Self-closing of Pool Gates
All pool gates must be able to self-latch from any point within their full rotational arc, including resting against the latching device.

Height of Pool Latches
Standard pool latches must be located at a minimum distance of 1500mm from the finished ground level & a minimum of 1400mm from the highest lower horizontal rail.
Note: This is measured to the openable section of the gate latch, not the top.

Climbable surfaces in the 900mm Non-Climbable Zone (NCZ)
There must not be any climbable surfaces within the 900mm NCZ such as security screens, tables, chairs, tree branches, vines, pot plants ect. Maje sure you cover off all these items in your Pool Fence Checklist.
Example 1 – Photo below showing a climbable security screen within the 900mm NCZ
In this case the security screen could be shielded with polycarbonate or similar non-climbable material up to the height of the pool fence. Alternatively the security screen could be replaced with a non-climbable version or the pool fencing could be re-located away from the climbable screen.
Example 2 – A tap being installed within the 900mm NCZ of a pool fence.
Taps and other climbable items must not be located within the 900mm NCZ of a pool barrier.
Example 3 – This gate has three hinges installed on this gate
In this case the middle hinge is climbable and must be removed or be fitted with a 60-degree cap
Outdated or damaged CPR signs
CPR sign must not be damaged or faded and must have the current CPR resuscitation instructions of (2 breaths – 30 Compressions)
Minimum 1200mm pool fence height – 1200mm Additional Clear Area
Pool fencing must maintain a minimum effective height of 1200mm the finished ground level (this includes tree stumps, rocks, root systems, pot plants etc).Diagram showing the location of the 1200mm Additional Clear Area (1200mm ACA).
